Safety Harbor Fourth of July Parade (PHOTOS)

The Independence Day parade down Main Street featured a wide assortment of patriotic participants.

The Safety Harbor Independence Day parade was a feast for the eyes and ears on Thursday.

Hundreds of patrons and participants enjoyed the downtown event, which was hosted by the Safety Harbor American Legion Post #238 Auxiliary.

Under grey skies that thankfully provided shade but no rain, men women and children packed Main Street to witness the Fourth of July festivities.

After the parade was over people moved to John Wilson Park, where the Legion put on a patriotic presentation featuring Santas Drill Team, the Drum & Bugle Corps Ensemble band, singers and special guest speakers.

One speaker was the Area Commander of the American Legion, Jim Burgess, who had this to say about the celebration of the day Americans signed the Declaration of Independence:

"We've sacrificed many lives in many battles since then, but it's all because those men had the courage to do what they did first."

Post #238 Commander Tom Zbikowski was especially proud of the day's events.

"We have the only Independence Day parade sponsored by an American Legion post," he told Patch.

"So we're proud of that and happy with the way the day turned out."
