Waterspout Near Safety Harbor (UPDATED)

As a severe storm rolled through north Pinellas County Monday night, several residents reported seeing a waterspout off the bay. Some even took photos!

Update: Since we posted this story, another reader posted some photos along with her description of the event to our Facebook page.

Reader Patti Crist said she and her family were in their swimming pool last evening when the storm rolled in and the waterspout formed.

Here is her account of the what happened:

"We were in our pool swimming when the storm clouds rolled in yesterday. We jumped out of the pool when we heard thunder. The clouds were swirling & then we saw the small funnel cloud start to form north of the 580 bridge. It grew into the waterspout & moved south where it literally sat in the bay & turned. It then moved east towards Oldsmar where it went onshore on Shore Blvd. The top half moved back north over the bay as the tornado went further inland & quickly fell apart...The first picture was taken at 6:27pm as the funnel cloud was forming. The actual event lasted for 25-30 minutes."
She added some incredible shots taken by her 17-year-old son, Cole Lesh. We've added the shots to the collection you see here.

Thanks to Patti and Cole for providing some compelling coverage! If anyone else has any photos or information about the waterspout and any damage it may have caused, pleased let us know.

Original story:

Another all too typical severe storm developed suddenly Monday evening, dumping a lot of rain on northern Pinellas County in a short amount of time.

With the storm came a tornado watch, which expired at around 7 p.m.

But before the watch expired a couple of observant Safety Harbor residents snapped photos of a waterspout onTampa Bay.

Here are two pictures of the spout that were submitted to our Facebook page last night, from readers 'Spleen Fish' and Jamie Huckleberry Bennett.

Reader Chris Hunt left the comment that the waterspout was "just off Allen a few minutes ago. It's gone."

Thanks for the uploads and the info, folks! Keep the photos coming, but please remember to stay safe!
