There should be special courts for psych cases just as there are special courts for financial,Read More maritime, juvenile, family and other specific types. This does not mean getting off with any difference in time, but it would mean a more accurate routing and disposition of the individuals. In many cases people do not want to change and would rather be sent to standard jails eventually released and still a danger to society.
John Dumas April 18, 2014 at 11:04 am
Some people do not have even an ember of empathy and need more separation from others and extendedRead More treatment, maybe life long, this may or may not be a case. And, many people just do not have a sense of proportionate response. No matter how trivial the response is irrationally disproportionate.

Laurel Anderson April 18, 2014 at 10:09 am
Nothing Is local on here anymore. Terrible decision to drop local editors for this junk no one caresRead More about. I used to love how we knew everything going on around here from the patch. Now nothing...horrible, horrible decision! !!! I keep hoping someone starts their own patch type of thing. I will be dropping this one.

Right and going by the fine which was 589 times the cost of the soda, BP, that did so much damage toRead More the Gulf should be fined .... 2Billion X 589 .... right, not in the Corporate States of America. That isn't going to happen. How about we apply that same fine to Wall Street .. hell they damn near wrecked the world's economy and have you seen any fines near 589 times the damage done? Direct your ire to the right people ...

Stealing is stealing and it costs all of us. People who eat the grapes at the grocery store withoutRead More paying for them, are stealing! Every item stolen adds up to added costs to everyone. I would have told this person to pay up first before the fine but the fine is always going to be more than the item. The fine is prevent the person from doing it again. Parking in my city overnight on the street used to be a $5 fine and so many people did. They have since raised the fines. This winter those overnight cars caused a lot of problems. They could not remove the snow with cars on the street. People don't think of the consequences before doing something wrong. Yes, people do things that are wrong but why does this it right? The 89 cents is really cheap for a soda so it makes sense that they don't allow refills for free. I have seen people using soda machines with their own cups. It ends up costing me for being honest. Eat me!

This is ridiculous. Let the guy pay on site. Waste of tax payers money. Theft is wrong, but this forRead More some reason seems different as many restaurants do give free refills.

So far the only complaint I've heard is about how terrible Reagan is. I really hate to tell you butRead More the so called War on Drugs, whether titled that or not, has been going on for a long time before Reagan or Nixon ever came into office. And the jackass party hasn't been behind in enforcing it either. Oh, Eric WithHolder claims he doesn't want to prosecute marijuana offenses - what the hell is the DEA doing here? And maybe you can tell me who has produced the drugs which, along with education about safe practices, has defeated or brought the AIDS problem under control? No, it's not the labor unions of America, Timothy Leary, or little old Madame Curie in her kitchen lab.

To clarify before someone jumps - the major drug control legislation did come about in 1970 as aRead More reaction to the widespread (both real and perceived) use and abuse of recreational drugs. Here's the story I posted this morning and was censored by PATCH Pistol Turned to ‘SubmachineRead More Gun’ By Clueless Media April 15, 2014 | Filed under Constitutional Issues, corruption,Culture,Culture Of Corruption,Democrats,Dumb Criminals,Gun control,Liberals,Media | Posted by Warner Todd Huston Once again we get proof of how mindless and clueless the media is, how they don’t fact check, but just mindlessly pass on each other’s bad work ad infinitum. This time it happened with a story about a criminal who used a .22 caliber pistol in a crime but one clueless reporter turned it into a “submachine gun” and hundreds of his mindless colleagues followed suit passing the lie on and on and on. Clueless reporter Darryl Holliday of DNAinfo Chicago, a website that caters to local news, reported on an incident that was perpetrated by a man from West Garfield Park who began wielding a .22 caliber pistol in a grocery store because he didn’t want to pay the 22 cents tax on a bottle of pop he was trying to buy. Holliday “reported” that the crook “pulled an Intratec submachine gun out of a Gucci satchel,” and in the next paragraph again claimed the piece was a “submachine gun” saying, “Officers arrived on the scene shortly after to find Shelton’s Gucci bag open on the counter as well as 15 bullets in the blue steel .22-caliber submachine gun–eight live rounds in one magazine, five in another and one in the chamber, according to court documents.” Of course, it is clear that reporter Holliday doesn’t have any idea what he’s rambling on about. The .22 caliber Intratec pistol is not a “submachine gun. It is a semi-automatic pistol like every other semi-auto pistol. A submachine gun is an automatic rifle that uses pistol cartridges instead of larger ones such as rifle or armor piercing cartridges. A one-hand-held version of this weapon is called a “machine pistol,” but it is also fully automatic. The Intratec pistol used in this crime is not a fully automatic weapon, however. It is semi-auto-meaning it fires only once when the trigger is pulled. It does not expel a stream of bullets like a fully automatic weapon does. Yet, as soon as this story went live on April 13, dozens of other so-called news outlets took up the claim that this dolt used a “submachine gun” in his crime. All one need do is put “Nahshon Shelton submachine gun” in any search engine and dozens of so-called news stories will be revealed saying that the criminal used a “submachine gun.” It all just shows that whenever you see a report on guns in the Old Media establishment, you should not trust it. They don’t even know the proper definitions of firearms terms and from there all their “facts” are suspect.

This was out in my neck of the woods. All really great kids, college bound and starting their adultRead More lives. It can be annoying to get news from areas other than your own, however the new Patch is doing things differently, and show no evidence of changing it back.....my best advice would be to ignore stories not in your area, and to write your editor directly, and share your comments with those who can make changes.

John Chrusciel April 14, 2014 at 02:21 pm
Decaturette back in the days before collapsible steering shafts it was a bad idea to wear a seatbeltRead More because during a head on collision the steering shaft would act as a spear and run you through. I never wore a seat belt my old MGA or TR3. However, this is no longer a problem because of modern design and engineering. Some people will hem and haw about being t-boned at an intersection and the harm that a three point harness can do. I personally know many people who have had their lives saved by seat belts. I always wear mine. They should afford children the same opportunity to protect themselves. A 25 mile per hour head on collision with another vehicle travelling at 25 miles per hour is like a 50 mile per hour collision. So I do not buy the argument about shorter distances nor do I buy the article about lower driving speeds. What can is cost to have simple lap belts installed in a school bus? Are we that greedy?
Becky April 14, 2014 at 04:03 pm
I think the real reason they don't install them is that it would raise a whole other level ofRead More liability -- like that then they would have to keep the seatbelts in good working order, and maybe enforce that people wear them. Could I sue them because another passenger flew out of their seat and hit me. Etc, etc.
