Retiring baseball commissioner Bud Selig said Tuesday the Tampa Bay Rays need a new stadium, but that any future changes are up to team management. (Wikimedia Commons)

I have been a Rays fan for a long time. I have been in this stadium when the Rays lost almost everyRead More game and were not a "popular" team. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Tropicana Field. I personally love attending games there. So sad to see how people keep hating on the Trop. Hoping that the RAYS can maybe upgrade the suites and seats and keep playing there! I see no benefit to moving or building a new stadium anywhere else. For the people who will not drive from Hillsborough County shame on you. I drive and also have season tickets to the LIGHTNING and I just don't understand!

I agree with you Christina. In the middle of summer, you can catch a game at the Trop, which is tempRead More controlled to 72 degrees. Way better than sweating your butt off in another stadium. Some upgrades, sure, but I do not see the correlation between the Trop and low attendance. It takes time for transplants to Tampa Bay to appreciate the local team instead of the one they watched in the town from which they came. Tampa is not the answer...they are Yankee fans and won't attend Rays games in Tampa any more than the Bucs draw.

The Trop could use some upgrades but a new stadium? Like Miami? So we could go from 30th to 27th inRead More attendance? And does Miami's stadium have the baseball umph? The Trop doesn't have that 'outdoor' baseball feel but bake your brains out at a late spring training game and see how your baseball umph feels.

Parents ruin sports..
sportsnut July 14, 2014 at 07:39 am
Alan I agree. Parents coach to get their kids and kids friends a leg up. Kids are choosen too basedRead More on parents and kids being friends. Take AAU and All-Stars and positions in each sport. Parents coach because they want their kid in prime positions, kids are friends with certain kids or because a family does not like someone but the kid has talent not playing. You need "out of area" coaches to come and determine if a kid is "that good" to be at the next level not "locals" whom coach because that is the only way the kid will get playing time.

sportsnut: Seems like a perfect opportunity for you to get involved in coaching... If nothingRead More else, becoming a coach will give you a voice in the league to lobby for equal playing time for all kids, and rotation of positions--particularly at the lower levels.

Is this a local concern or are pythons primarily concentrated in certain areas?

The Everlglades are vast, to try to catch all of them will be a challenge so far 800 hunters haveRead More found 50 snakes..that means for every 6.25 hunters there is one snake. Hardly seems worth it huh....odds are 6-1/4 to 1 your going to even see one much less capture it. I know I know they are invasive although man made invasive but the environment will adapt as the history of evolution has showed us. Alligators and big snakes come on down we got em all....

I came from across the bridge in North Tampa and thoroughly enjoyed the beatiful town of SafetyRead More Harbor. Thanks for your hospitality, the volunteers and the race crew. I've ran many halfs and several full marathons and thought this to be a very well organized race and being the first year - well extra kudo's for the minor snafu's. My husband and I as well as our friends who came from Orlando and Claremont truly enjoyed the day.

I ran the half and the course went right by our house. I invited friends and family to come out andRead More cheer the runners on. We had coffee and bagels and juice. They cheered all the runners until the last ones passes by with the sweep car. Then many of them went and participated in the 5k. But many of the people in town had no idea the roads would be closed or knew anything about the race. My neighbor works for the city and had no idea there was a race or that the street would be closed. It would be nice if we could have more folks out in the neighborhoods along the course out cheering. I spoke with runners during the race who came here from across the state and from as far away as Chicago. They loved the course. Maybe next year we can show them our great scenery and enthusiasm.
