UPDATE: Young Reporters Storm the Harbor!

Laura Kepner conducted a camp for kids who are interested in writing; guess who got to be a guest speaker?!

UPDATE, June 26: According to a Facebook post from Laura Kepner, the Young Reporters have been extremely busy in town, and they will be posting accounts of their adventures here on Safety Harbor Patch very soon:

Today the Young Reporters interviewed Mayor Joe Ayoub Ms. Mary Neville at Harbor Pets Grooming, Mr. Bill Bailey at Main Street Market, longtime resident Mr. Romeo Lemay, and Mr. Scott Anderson, the curator at Safety Harbor Museum and Cultural Center. The writers asked great questions and I'm looking forward to reading their articles on Safety Harbor Patch as soon as they finish writing, going through the editing process and polishing their stories. Details soon ...

Original post:
Laura Kepner, a driving force behind so many excellent projects centered around writing in Safety Harbor, was at it again on Monday.

Kepner, founder of the Safety Harbor Writers and Poets Group, conducted a Young Reporters Camp at the Museum and Cultural Center this morning, and yours truly was invited to attend.

The group of kids, who were in the 10-12 age range and hailed from all around the area, shared their thoughts and interests regarding writing and reporting, and let's just say there were some interesting questions asked.

"I wrote a book, it's actually a series of three books, but I forgot to include a bibliography. Will I still be able to get it published without one?" asked one inspired young writer.

My response was simple: in this day and age it's easier than ever for people - even kids - to get published, so keep writing, follow your dreams and maybe someday you'll be crisscrossing your town searching for stories like me!

Thanks so much for inviting me to speak to the group, Laura. Keep inspiring the young writers in the greater Safety Harbor area!
