Three of the final four spots in the field were determined in Monday’s Open Qualifier at Fox Hollow Golf Club. They went to veteran pro Tim Petrovic and David Bradshaw who shot 66 and Andy Pope who birdied the second playoff hole after shooting 67. David Skinns and Garrett Osborn who also had 67s, remained tied after four playoff holes and will resume their competition for the final spot in the morning.

Petrovic, a longtime resident of Pasco County, will be playing in the tournament for the 11th time.  He finished 4th in 2003.

There was one other change in the field on Monday.  Kevin Na withdrew and was replaced by Jin Park.  Jim Herman is now the first alternate.

Updated Monday, March 11, 2013-

There were some changes to the Tampa Bay Championship field on Sunday.

Five players qualified to play based on finishing in the top 10 in the Puerto Rico Open, led by winner Scott Brown.  It is the second consecutive year Brown’s strong performance inPuerto Rico has put him in the tournament.

Also qualifying in Puerto Rico were Jordan Spieth, Justin Bolli, Peter Uihlein and D.J. Trahan.

Spieth and Uihlein are two of the rising stars in golf.  Spieth, still only 19 years old, has won two U.S. Junior Amateur titles and finished 21st in the 2012 U.S. Open.  He turned pro in December.

Uihlein, the 2010 U.S. Amateur champion and an All-American at Oklahoma State, received a sponsor’s exemption to the Tampa Bay Championship in 2011 and made his first cut in a PGA TOUR event, finishing 57th.

Ernie Els, who had committed to the tournament on Friday, withdrew due to an ailment.

Saturday, March 9, 2013-

An already strong field for the 2013 Tampa Bay Championship presented by EverBank was bolstered in the final hours before the commitment deadline Friday, March 8, with the addition of former major champions Ernie Els and Geoff Ogilvy.

Els, the defending British Open champion, finished one shot out of a playoff on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort last year and will be making the trip to St. Pete-Clearwater after hosting his annual Els for Autism fundraiser in Palm Beach County on Monday.

Ogilvy, who counts the 2006 U.S. Open winner among his seven PGA TOUR titles, moved back in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) top 50 last week with a runner-up finish at the Honda Classic.  The commitments of Els and Ogilvy put 21 members of the OWGR top 50 in the field.

Brandt Snedeker, 4th in the OWGR, is one player who has withdrawn from the field due to injury. Snedeker has not played since winning the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in early February.

The tournament does include four members of the top eight in the OWGR, led by defending champion Luke Donald at number 3.  Also in the field are # 6 Louis Oosthuizen, #7 Adam Scott and #8 Matt Kuchar who recently won the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship.

Other players in the OWGR top 30 are #16 Jason Dufner, #17 2012 U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson, #18 Sergio Garcia, #23 Nick Watney, #24 Els, #25 Zach Johnson, #27 Jim Furyk and #28 Martin Kaymer.

In addition to Donald and Furyk, other former winners of the Tampa Bay Championship in the field include two-time titlists K.J. Choi and Retief Goosen, as well as Vijay Singh, Carl Pettersson, Sean O’Hair and Gary Woodland.

All told 50 of the top 75 players from the 2012 PGA TOUR Official Money List are in the field.  The field is still subject to change, including the addition of four players through Monday’s open qualifying and some top 10 finishers in the Puerto Rico Open.
