Outstanding Educator Joanne Wright Honored by City Commission

The Safety Harbor Middle School teacher was recognized for recently being named the county's most outstanding educator.

Joanne Wright has had a busy past few weeks.

Since winning the 2012-13 Pinellas County Outstanding Educator of the Year award last month, the Safety Harbor Middle School teacher has done countless interviews, filled out dozens of documents and thank you cards, received a limo ride to work and saw her face plastered across a billboard on US 19.

Monday night she added another accolade to her growing list when the Safety Harbor City Commission proclaimed March 18, 2013 as Joanne Wright Day in the city.

"Ms. Wright was honored as the 2012-13 Pinellas County's Outstanding Educator of the Year on February 25, 2013...and Ms. Wright was also awarded the People's Choice/Fan Favorite award," Mayor Joe Ayoub read from the proclamation.

"Therefore I, Joe Ayoub, Mayor of the City of Safety Harbor, Florida do hereby proclaim March 18, 2013 as Joanne Wright day in the City and urge everyone to join me in wishing Ms. Wright the very best in her teaching career."

After receiving her proclamation and a key to the city, Wright expressed her appreciation for the commission.

"I want to thank you so much for everything you do and for this wonderful community that you have created," she said. "I can speak for all the teachers at my school when we tell you how grateful we are to work in a community that supports us the way that you do."

"I know we feel your support every single day...and we feel like we have the community behind us and backing us, so thank you very much."

Next up for the sixth-grade Reading teacher: a trip to Tropicana Field to throw out the first pitch at a Rays game, and the chance to be named the outstanding educator for the entire state of Florida when that award is announced in July.
