IndieFlix – A Streaming Film Festival Experience for Safety Harbor Library Members

September is National Library Card month and the Safety Harbor Library has something new you can get with your card!  Through the generosity of the Friends of the Safety Harbor Library, the Library is pleased to announce the arrival of IndieFlix an online streaming film resource.  IndieFlix offers thousands of premier films and award-winning independent movies, shorts and documentaries from around the world, free to Safety Harbor Library members with your library card.

Accessed through the library’s website http://www.safetyharborlibrary.com/, members create an account on IndieFlix with their Safety Harbor Library card number to gain unlimited access to streaming film-festival hits, including the best of Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca, and more. IndieFlix is available on Apple®, Android™, and all Internet-enabled devices.  Films can also be watched on your TV with a Roku or Xbox device. Once you create your account, you can enjoy films anywhere and create specific search criteria for the type of film and desired length you want to view!

Jay Hopler Poetry Reading and Discussion: Thursday, September 12, 6:30pm. Join us for an evening with award-winning poet Jay Hopler as he reads and discusses his new poetry.

Viva 500 - Relive Florida’s History Lecture Series: Cuban Fishing Ranchos in Tampa Bay: Thursday, September 19, 6:00 pm.  Jeff Moates with the Florida Public Archaeology Network will discuss important early Spanish/Cuban fishing camps were to the development of Tampa Bay.  Funding for this program was provided through a grant from the Florida Humanities Council with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Cupcake Decorating with Sweet Ida Mae’s:  Saturday, September 21, 1:00 pm.  A mouth-watering demonstration of cupcake decorating tips from pastry chef, Mary K. of Sweet Ida Mae’s Bakery.  Registration is required; call 727-724-1525 x4112

Tail-Waggin’ Tutors – A Dog is a READER’S Best Friend: Tuesday, September 17, 4:30 pm and Friday, September 20, 3:30 pm.  Is your child nervous about reading?  Tail-Waggin’ Tutors may be the perfect answer.  These dogs are specially trained to listen patiently while a child practices reading and gains more confidence.  Registration is required; call 727-724-1525 x4118

LEGO League: (Ages 4 and up) Wednesday, September 25th, 3:00 pm and every Saturday, 3:00 pm.  Bring your friends and join us for creative building with LEGOS.

Homework Help!  (Grades 2 - 8) Mondays and Thursdays, 4:00 - 6:00 pm.  Bright Futures Scholarship students will be at the library to tutor and assist students who are struggling with their homework.  Sign up at the Children’s Reference desk when you get here.  First come, first served; no reservations.  Tutors will be here when school is in session, but not during school breaks/vacations. 

Starlight Puppet Show: Tuesday, September 24, 7:00 pm. Come in your pajamas and snuggle down with your favorite blanket or stuffed animal for 30 minutes of sleepy-time stories.  

Wee Discoveries: (Ages 2 - 6 years) Thursday, September 12, 11:15 am – 12:15 pm.  Come play with age-appropriate discovery stations designed to encourage creativity in learning with STEM goals in mind.  Adult participation required. 

Parent/ Tween Book Club: (Ages 9-12) Sunday, September 29, 3:30 pm. Join our new book club just for tweens and their parents!  Fake mustache: Or, How Jodie O’Rodeo and Her Wonder Horse (and Some Nerdy Kid) Saved the U.S. Presidential Election form a Mad Genius Criminal Mastermind by Tom Angleberger. 

Yuck @ the Library: (Grades 2 – 8) Friday, September 27, 4:00 pm. Observe and assist in conducting messy science experiments while learning scientific concepts such as viscosity, nucleation, and non-Newtonian fluids.  Registration is required; call 727-724-1525 x4118

Creative Writing Club: (Ages 13+). 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, 4:00-5:00 pm. Come and get your poems, short stories, novel excerpts, and scripts work shopped! Learn vital craft techniques and improve your skills. Come prepared to share with 8-10 copies of your work.

Game On!: (Ages: Tweens and Teens) Saturday, September 14th, 2:30-4:30 pm. Come hang out for an afternoon of board and video games! You can play multi-player games like Mario Kart and Just Dance on the Wii. Or, you can sit down and play board games like Apples to Apples, Chess, and Risk.

Career Center with John Sattler: (Ages 13+). Wednesday, September 25th, 6:30-7:30 pm. Do you need help improving your interview skills? Could your resume and cover letter use some work?
