Homemade T-Shirts Turn Heads at Paul Ryan Rally

A couple of Safety Harbor residents attracted plenty of attention and some laughs at Saturday's rally for Republican Vice-Presidential nominee Paul Ryan at R.E. Olds Park in Oldsmar.

Romney-Ryan supporters, Sue and Steve Looker designed homemade t-shirts that take a jab at President Barack Obama and former President Jimmy Carter. The shirts feature a morphed likeness of Obama and Carter and say "Barack O'Carter".

The couple says the recent attacks against the U.S. embassy in Libya prompted their creative expression.  Sue Looker, 52, is not happy with the way she believes the Obama administration handled the attacks. 

"What just happened in Libya. That's just totally unnecessary and ridiculous. Our ambassador was killed, our seals were killed, and he apologizes?"

Looker is referring to a statement released by the Romney campaign after the attacks that condemns the Obama administration's actions. The issue is discussed in this CNN blog.  

Her husband, Steve, 55, who has a Ph.D. in Engineering, thinks the attacks are similar to a previous international crisis when a different democratic president was in office.

"It was the same deal as Carter in the eighties," said Steve, referring to the Iranian hostage situation in the 1980s, which some believe made former President Jimmy Carter look ineffectual. 

The couple says they'll be voting for the Romney-Ryan ticket. They think Romney has strong family values which will benefit the country. They also think he'll bring lower taxes.

When asked if their lives are better, worse or about the same as four years ago, the Lookers say life is about the same for them.
