FloodInsights adds Florida Sinkhole Reports for properties

In the state of Florida a standard homeowner's insurance policy does not provide sinkhole coverage. FloodInsights now gives users a way to identify sinkhole and flood risk for properties in Florida.

FloodInsights Now Providing Florida Sinkhole Reports to Appraisers, Homeowners, Mortgage and Real-Estate Professionals

Boston, MA, December 2012 – FloodInsights, a national provider of automated FEMA flood zone determinations to appraisers, homeowners and mortgage & real estate professionals, has added a Florida Sinkhole report to its service.  This report is based on the locations of over 15,000 sinkhole and subsidence events in Florida.

Over the last few years sinkholes have emerged as the new costly risk in Florida due to heavy rains, massive pumping of groundwater and the creation of new buildings, streets and retention ponds.  With this in mind, FloodInsights created the first commercial sinkhole report for appraisers, homeowners and mortgage & real estate professionals.  By simply typing in an address, it’s now possible to get a FEMA flood report, as well as the following sinkhole information:

¨      Distance to closest sinkhole

¨      Number of sinkholes within a ½ mile radius

¨      Number of sinkholes within a 1 mile radius

¨      Sinkhole hazard map (aerial photo optional)

“Many people think that there are just a few counties in Florida that are affected by sinkholes, but sinkhole risk has been spreading geographically over the last few years, explains Dan Munson, Founder, FloodInsights.  “As sinkhole and subsidence events have become more prevalent in Florida, homeowners, appraisers and mortgage & real estate professionals had no way to check for this growing risk.  By adding this data to our service, we can now help our customers make better purchasing and lending decisions,” says Munson.
