PHOTOS: City Officials Help With Habitat for Humanity Build

The event on Saturday, May 18 brought out 11 Safety Harbor officials and staff members, including Mayor Joe Ayoub and Fire Chief Joe Acetta.

A number of Safety Harbor city officials, including the mayor, vice mayor, two commissioners and the fire chief, showed up on Spruce Street on Saturday to participate in the latest Habitat for Humanity home build.

It was the second such project to take place in Safety Harbor.

Some of the leaders who participated in the project, including Mayor Joe Ayoub, Vice Mayor Cliff Merz and Commissioner Nina Bandoni, mentioned the event during the city commission meeting on Monday night.

Bandoni, who was instrumental in bringing the non-profit organization back to Safety Harbor, was especially pleased with the turnout and the results.

"I'd like to thank my fellow commissioners and the fire department and Ana Mena and Matt Spoor for helping on the Habitat house this weekend," Bandoni said during her commission report.

"We all got together and helped paint and welcome the new family to our community, and it was a lot of fun."

Barbara Inman, CEO and president of Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County, emailed Patch with this to say about the build:

“Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County is grateful to the Safety Harbor Commission for their dedication to affordable housing, as evidenced by their volunteering for us this past weekend! The home will be a testament to that commitment.”
