HGTV Show Films in Safety Harbor

The network's "Extreme Homes" program filmed at the Whimzeyland complex, owned by local artists Kiaralinda and Todd Ramquist, this week.

Crews from the popular cable channel HGTV came to Safety Harbor this week to shine a spotlight on one of the most famous homes in Pinellas County.

The cameras were pointed at the Whimzeyland complex on the corner of 12th Avenue North and 3rd Street North for an upcoming edition of the channel's "Extreme Homes" program.

The property, better known as the Bowling Ball House, is owned by local artists Kiaralinda and Todd Ramquist; the pair took a break from their summerlong tour of the art festival circuit to come back to town for the shoot.

"They called us earlier this summer and asked us if we'd be interested in being on the show," Kiaralinda told Patch on Wednesday. "We were out of town but we've always wanted to be on the show, so we said 'yes' and flew back on Sunday."

According to the "Extreme Homes" website, the show takes "an up-close look at some of the world's most spectacular houses ever built."

The Whimzey twins look at being on the program as an opportunity to showcase the community and their work, especially their latest project, the Safety Harbor Art and Music Center, or SHAMc.

"They're shooting here at Whimzey, across the street as Casa Loco and down at SHAMc," Ramquist said. "It's great exposure for what we do as artists...and it'll be really great exposure for SHAMc by the time the show airs."

According to a producer with the program, she said she expects the Whimzey house show to air sometime later this year or early next year.
