Photo of the Day: New Business on Main Street?

The sign in the window of the vacant building at 525 Main St. is down. Could that mean a new business is coming to town?

Walking around town the other day, I snapped a shot of this sign that used to hang in the window at 525 Main Street. For some reason, now it's down.

It could be nothing, or it could mean there is a new business moving into the long vacant property.

Comments on a recent Patch feature on Mayor Steingold mentioned the buildings at 525 and neighboring 509 Main as property that sorely needs to be developed in order to allow the downtown to grow. Perhaps this is a 'sign' of things to come?

What do you think, Harborites? Is this sign is down for a reason, or did it simply fall out of the window after hanging there for so long? Let us know in the comments below.

I don't know, but I wish she would either sell them or do something with them. Even donating space to charity would be better than leaving them empty.

Cities can level fines on vacant buildings. All they need is a mayor and a council with the will and foresight to make major improvements. And a good city attorney to help them daft an ordenence that will stand up in court.

I've been told by city officials there is nothing they can do to a property owner to make them rent or sell a building. And from what I understood, they city wants these properties leased/occupied as much as the residents do.
