Yesterday (Sunday 11/25), GuSgt Jesse Saltzman USMC deployed back to Afghanistan for the second time. His last trip there didn’t end so well, as they were 28 days from coming home when his Corporal, Ken Kalish, stepped on an I.E.D.
Kenny lost both legs and Jesse was knocked out and received shrapnel in his hand, leg and neck. On that morning Jesse had talked to Sgt Jason Rogers, and he mentioned how it should be a pretty easy day. Later that day, Sgt Rogers was mortally wounded in an ambush.
So as we storm the stores for bargains and rejoice in the season, we need to remember who makes it possible: It is our brave men and women that won’t be home for Christmas.
I will be holding my breath and not getting much sleep for the next 7 months. The thing I do realize is it is the life he chose. So to him I say "Semper Fi Marine"!!!
Here is Jesse’s Facebook posting from yesterday
Just kissed the wife and kids goodbye, on my way for a zillion hour flight back to Afghanistan.ugh, never really prepared or ready, wish we could start a war with some country that’s nice and tropical like Jamaica or Hawaii for once.
Hawaii?? He's a funny guy!!! Wonder where he got that sense of humor?
Please put him and all our sons and daughters in the Military on your prayer list.

BTW Jesse's take on Afghanistan is the men are ugly, they treat their women bad and they want to kill us...

Robert, I appreciate Jesse's service and pray for his safe return home. While it is true that many Americans go about their daily lives of shopping, eating out or going to the movies giving little or no thought about what our troops are going through, too many of our troops "give the last full measure of their devotion" or are horribly wounded or maimed fighting wars that do little to protect our freedoms. Iraq and Afghanistan are just a continuation of the bad or failed policies that got over 50,000 of our sons and daughters in Vietnam killed. Please remind me how the War in Vietnam protected all our freedoms again. Sure the men in Afghanistan want to kill us, we invaded their country and have occupied it for over ten-years now. Any student of history can tell you that of all the countries that have invaded Afghanistan, none have conquered it as of yet. The real winners in these two senseless wars are the corporations that feed at the troughs of the military industrial complex and are funded by our tax dollars. As a disabled veteran, I pray daily for our troops, I also pray that we will finally stop fighting these foolish and irresponsible wars of choice that do little to protect our freedoms. Yes I said it, let's stop the insanity of these wars and bring all of our troops home and out of harms way now.

News from the front. Opened up my Facebook page to see that I had missed my son, he was online about an hour before I woke up. But I see where he was doing a little up n back with one of his Marine buddies. Here is their conversation short but to the point I guess. "Ohhh Rah Devil Dogs"
Jacob:
I can't believe how excited I am to stand Regimental Duty tomorrow! I mean I can't think of a better way to spend all 24 hours of my Saturday other then sitting in a hut and waiting for something bad to happen!! I am so glad the Marine Corps allowed me and willing gave it to me on Saturday, because they know how much I love to work a whole week PLUS the extra 24 hours on Saturday away from my family!!
