Every Valentine's Day my wife and I struggle to decide where to go for dinner on this most special day of love.
This year was a no-brain-er as I noticed our favorite pub had a Valentine's Day special offer. 8th Avenue Pub's Facebook page listed a dinner special that included an appetizer of pretzel nuggets with mustard or chips and salsa, one of their totally delicious pizzas with three toppings, a bottle of wine to be shared or two well drinks or two beers per person plus cookies n cream or mocha pudding shots for dessert. All this for only $32, what a great value!
Of course, one of the hassles of going to dinner on any holiday, unless a reservation is made well in advance, is the wait time to be seated. We arrived at the pub at six o'clock and although a number of tables were already taken, found a table waiting for us.
I even brought a Yankee Candle with my wife's favorite scent to enhance the dining mood. We ordered the chips and salsa for an appetizer. This appetizer was very tasty indeed. In addition to the regular salsa which was simply wonderful, kiwi and mango based salsas were also served. The kiwi salsa was so good that I was tempted to drink the remains after the chips were gone. Not wanting to embarrass my beautiful wife Liz, I successfully resisted this temptation though.
We ordered a half-and-half pizza that was served to us in the shape of a heart and was heavenly to devour. If you haven’t yet had one of the 8th Avenue Pub's superb pizzas, please do yourselves a favor and do so soon. The best part for me is the crust made from 200-year-old cultured dough. This dough is as simply described – incredible! We ended our meal with my wife ordering the cookies n cream and I the mocha pudding shots. The shots were absolutely yummy and a wonderfully delightful end to a great casual dinning experience.
In addition, the service was perfect and our service person, Jennifer, was very attentive and friendly. Of course, the adult beverages were as always appreciated too. I mean really, does it get any better than great pizza and cold tap beer? Perhaps, the the most rewarding part was receiving the bill for $32 which left us able to leave a most generous tip for the excellent services we received.
As we were leaving the pub, which had filled up with other couples and regulars we knew, my wife commented on what a wonderfully delightful and satisfying experience she had that evening. She gave me kudos for my choice of where to go for Valentine's Day dinner.
To me, a happy wife equals a happy life. Last night, I was very happy husband too. Thanks again, 8th Avenue Pub, you're the best!

Good to know. I would have never thought of going there for a special dinner. We had a similarly good experience at Southern Fresh. (Or is it not kosher to mention another restaurant in this nice article on the Pub? If not - sorry!)

No worries Gisela, as the writer of this blog posting I appreciate any and all feed back. Southern Fresh is awesome food too and it is nice to have numerous good choices for good food in our community. I just happened to write about my wife and I's very satisfying experience at the 8th Ave Pub for Valentine's Day. Kept it simple, casual, had good food and a good time for a great price. Heard the Pub has a good Living Social special that my wife is going to go on line and buy too.

We have lots of awesome choices in the Harbor, and it's good to know that 8th can put one of these on a good as all of the others.
