My wife Liz and I really enjoy watching CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood and with the invention of DVR capabilities very rarely miss it. For those who haven't watched this show, it is in our opinion one of the best shows on national television. This show does feature stories on a variety of subjects and is just the right blending of news of the day to zany story segments by differing correspondents to music and book reviews etc.
One of our favorite segments is at the end of the show where a 30-60 second "Moment of Nature" is shown from a variety of locations around our beautiful country. We always try to quess where this moment of nature will occur. Once again, this week our quesses were wrong.
Image to our suprise when the beginning of the clip showed Old Tampa Bay, we're quessing from Phillipe Park, and Charles Osgood announced this week's moment of nature happened in Safety Harbor. Florida. The clip went on to feature numerous "Gecko Lizards" on local trees and foliage. Yes, as locals we often take this lizards for granted, however, they helped in putting a national spotlight on our beautiful little city by the bay this past Sunday.

I like that thought Christine, we do live in a lovely setting. I first came to Safety Harbor thirty-three-years-ago. Of course, back then it was The Village of Safety Harbor and was oh so much more quaint and restively peaceful. The pier was about three feet wide, no railings and shorter with a small open platform at the end. There was no real marina to speak of and no seawall so the water from Old TampaBay lapped up gently onto the shoreline. Main street had few businesses and the only real restaurant was where the Paradise is now. I belive the only bar was called Wilson's Lounge and was where Harbor Bar is located now. Of course, the Spa was the main attraction where mostly out of state tourists would come to stay, soak up the sun and relax. It sure was a much simplier time then. We still have a beautiful jewel of a city, it just needs a bit of polishing and cleaning.
