Who Serves the Best Cuban in Safety Harbor?
We've found a pair of contenders, but we need your help in answering this tasty question.
Downtown Safety Harbor has numerous places to eat, whether you are looking for a hearty breakfast, satisfying lunch or delectable dinner.
But when you're on the go, like your intrepid editor is on a daily basis, nothing beats a quick sandwich that you can eat in your car, or at the marina, while working on your next article.
Thanks to a tip from a local librarian, we learned there are a couple of places in town to get a mean Cuban sandwich at an incredibly affordable price.
Upon hearing this, yours truly sprung into action, quickly sampling the sandwiches from First Choice Food & Deli and Safety Harbor Chevron to help gauge which should be the sandwich of choice when a sit-down trip to Crispers is out of the question.
Unfortunately, I was unable to decide between the two. Both utilize traditional Cuban bread and meats, both use hot presses to sear the sandwiches just so, and both provide satisfying meals for roughly the cost of a gallon of gas.
"People come from all over for our Cubans," Eddie, the proprietor at First Choice, told me. "I have snowbirds that tell me they can't wait to get back in town to have one of my Cubans."
Over at the Chevron, the story was the same.
"Best Cuban in town," owner Helmi Melkeya said without a hint of boasting. "People line up to get these sandwiches at lunch time."
So without being able to decide for ourselves, we turn to you, the citizens of and visitors to Safety Harbor, to help make the call.
